Prince Harry and Meghan Markle surely know how to bring in the holidays!

The newly engaged couple was given a warm welcome as they attended the traditional Christmas Day church service on Monday. This is the first time the royal family has included someone outside of their family in their traditional holiday celebrations.

Many people gathered outside of the church to get a glimpse of the royal family. Many of them even saw Markle give her first public curtsy to the 91-year-old Queen Elizabeth as she left the service.

The royal family spent Christmas at the Sandringham estate in Norfolk, England. Queen Elizabeth; Princes Phillip, Charles, and William; and Kate Middleton also were in attendance.

“The family loved having her there,” Harry told the BBC. “There’s always that family part of Christmas [where] there’s always that work element there as well, and I think together we had an amazing time.”

It’s the Christmas photo that’s gone around the world: the first shot of the Royal “fab four” all together, and it was taken by chance with an iPhone. • Royal watchers Karen Anvil and her daughter Rachel Murdoch were in the crowd at Sandringham on Dec. 25, and happened to be in the right place at the right time to catch Prince William and Catherine with Prince Harry and his new fiancee, Meghan Markle. • Anvil got the shot and posted it to Twitter, where it was initially seen by just a few followers. It has since been licensed and published around the world. Anvil hopes it will earn her enough money to put her daughter through college. • A shot like that would usually be taken by a professional photographer with years of experience covering the Royal Family. It's also unusual that Markle was there at all. The royals broke from tradition by allowing her to join the Queen for Christmas Mass before becoming an official member of the family. • Markle and Prince Harry announced their engagement in November and are to be married in May 2018 | Photo by Karen Anvil/Image Direct | #CBCTheNational #CBCNews #CBC #royals #MeghanMarkle #PrinceHarry

He continued, “We had great fun staying with my brother and sister-in-law and running round with the kids. Christmas was fantastic.”

According to Harry, Markle has adapted quickly to the the royal lifestyle.

“I think we’ve got one of the biggest families I know and every family is complex,” he said to the BBC. “She has done an absolutely amazing job, just getting in there and it’s the family, I suppose, that she’s never had.”

The couple is set to be married on May 19, 2018 at St. George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle.
