If there is one constant thing about being a royal – it is the rules. Royals’ lives are governed by rules that include etiquette, appearance, fashion, and even what they are allowed to eat or not eat. It is the norm for people to have “freedom”, especially when they are stuck with things that are too much for them. That is one of the reasons why there are always tule-breakers within the royal family – it could be by blood or by marriage. Here are some of the most remarkable rule-breakers within the walls of a royal castle.
Princess Stéphanie of Monaco
In addition to her brief career in music and fashion, Princess Stéphanie attracted worldwide notice when she gave birth to Camille out of wedlock and steadfastly refused to reveal her father. Soon after, the Princess started dating and married elephant trainer Franco Knie, and she and her three children eventually moved into his circus caravan. After that, she wed Adans Lopez Peres, an acrobat who was a part of her ex-boyfriend’s circus. They were just married for 10 minutes.

Princess Margaret fit the mold of a rebellious younger sister. Margaret continued to lead a rebellious life after having one extremely public love affair with an older man named Peter Townsend. Her rebellious acts include binge drinking, excessive smoking, a renowned party life, and an alleged affair with Mick Jagger. She and her husband, Anthony Armstrong-Jones ended up filing for divorce since both of them participated in extra-marital affairs throughout their marriage.
Meghan, Duchess of Sussex
Meghan Markle, Duchess of Sussex, has been accused numerous times of ‘royal rule-breaking even though it was unintentional. since she met and married Prince Harry in 2017. Meghan is sometimes referred to as a royal rebel because of her ripped jeans, untidy buns, social circle, wearing pants instead of skirts and dresses on special occasions, and her decision to fly to New York for a private baby shower.
Sarah, Duchess of York
The Duchess of York has actively courted controversy since Prince Andrew announced his engagement to Sarah Ferguson. On her vacation in the South of France in August 1992, the Duchess of York was photographed by the paparazzi with John Byron (financial adviser) kissing and sucking her toes. Princess Margaret reportedly penned a letter to her after the couple’s 1996 divorce, alleging she had done more to defame the family than anyone could have ever imagined.
